Fiendsmith Engine
The August 2024 Banlist has killed this version. While was an important combo piece, Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal was the sole reason why this version was worth playing.
Due to the quick death of this version the guide never got updated to include Necroquip Princess in the combos, as it was written before she was announced.Fiendsmith Engraver engine for Labrynth (or any deck) encompasses 5-7 Main Deck slots and 3+ Extra Deck Slots, containing no garnets and no bricks.
Furniture Labrynth is a deck that has always struggled with getting started. Even with Transaction Rollback and the Unchained engine, a single Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring or Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion can often be difficult to navigate around for some hands. However, like the Unchained engine, Fiendsmith provides extension and insulation through these common handtraps. Fiendsmith Engraver engine is, at its core, a means of insulation and extension typically outside of Labrynth’s reach.
While the above is the most important point, here are other additional benefits as well:
- Rank 6 Access, additionally pairing with Arias and the (depending on format) commonly sided Bystials
- Provide bodies for Unchained engine, if you are also on it
- Additional board breaking, grind game, and follow up
- Being able to make a Chaos Angel with both Attributes, by using a LV 6 Fiendsmith monster and one of the LV 4 Labrynth Servants
- Time option via GY trigger of Fiendsmith’s Lacrima
Card Effects
You can discard this card; add 1 "Fiendsmith" Spell/Trap from your Deck to your hand. You can target 1 "Fiendsmith" Equip Card you control and 1 monster on the field; send them to the GY. If this card is in your GY: You can shuffle 1 other LIGHT Fiend monster from your GY into the Deck/Extra Deck; Special Summon this card. You can only use each effect of "Fiendsmith Engraver" once per turn.
The primary starter of the combo, and the most important body used troughout it.
- The (1) effect allows you to search for any Fiendsmith S/T, however the only target we are interested in is Tract.
- The (2) effect is a very nice bonus to have, giving this engine some board breaking power going second, as this effect can be used without impacting the combo.
- The (3) effect is key in many combos, as this is how you get your second LV6 fiend onto the board. However, in some lines you can reach 2 LV6 fiends without using this, in which case this is a handy extra body for ED plays.
When this card is discarded to the Graveyard, Special Summon it.
Not a great card to have to play, but a highly important combo piece. The effect is pretty straight forward, just be aware that it is mandatory. It is usually being triggered via Tract, but if you hard draw it you can still use this effect, as the Furnitures discard a card from the hand.
2 LIGHT Fiend monsters
Monsters your opponent controls lose 600 ATK. You can only use each of the following effects of "Fiendsmith's Lacrima" once per turn. If this card is Fusion Summoned: You can target 1 of your LIGHT Fiend monsters that is banished or in your GY; add it to your hand or Special Summon it. If this card is sent to the GY: You can shuffle 1 other LIGHT Fiend monster from your GY into the Deck/Extra Deck; inflict 1200 damage to your opponent.
A core combo piece of all of the bigger combo lines.
- The (1) effect is nice to have, as it allows you to more easily kill big monsters, but the 600 ATK loss are not important most of the time, as this card usually doesn’t stay long on the board.
- The (2) effect targets a LIGHT Fiend from your GY or Banishment and adds it back to the hand, or special summons it. Recycling from the banishment adds flexibility and allows for counter play if you got Bystial’d earlier in the combo. Both adding to hand and special summoning are relevant, some combos add back a Fiendsmith rather than special summoning him.
- The (3) effect is a nice bonus burn and gives yet another timeout option.
1 LIGHT Fiend monster
You can only Special Summon "Fiendsmith's Requiem(s)" once per turn. During the Main Phase (Quick Effect): You can Tribute this card; Special Summon 1 "Fiendsmith" monster from your hand or Deck. You can target 1 LIGHT non-Link Fiend monster you control; equip this card from your field or GY to that monster you control as an Equip Spell that gives it 600 ATK. You can only use this effect of "Fiendsmith's Requiem" once per turn.
The primary way to get Fiendsmith Engraver in rotation by allowing you to use Moon of the Closed Sky as material for its summon while also being a Quick effect to tribute itself effectively dodging most handtraps.
- The (1) effect tributes this card as a Quick-Effect to Special Summon 1 “Fiendsmith” monster from your deck. This allows you to easily get Fiendsmith Engraver in rotation or access to another copy of him while also dodging most handtraps.
- The (2) effect is the primary way to meet the requirements for the send effect of Fiendsmith Engraver while also giving 600 attack to potentially run over any bigger monsters.
2 monsters, including a LIGHT Fiend monster
During your Main Phase: You can Fusion Summon 1 Fiend Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck, by shuffling its materials from your GY into the Deck. You can target 1 LIGHT non-Link Fiend monster you control; equip this card from your field or GY to that monster you control as an Equip Spell with the following effect.
● Your opponent cannot target the equipped monster with card effects.
You can only use each effect of "Fiendsmith's Sequence" once per turn.
The primary way of making Fiendsmith’s Lacrima and a central piece to the bigger Smith combos.
- The (1) effect allows you to easily summon Fiendsmith fusion since it uses the GY for the material.
- The (2) effect is similar to Requiem but instead of giving attack it gives targeting protection.
2 Effect Monsters
You can target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls this card points to; this turn, if you Link Summon a Link-5 monster using this card you control, you can also use that monster your opponent controls as material. You can only use this effect of "Moon of the Closed Heaven" once per turn.
While her effect is neat in combination with Underworld Goddess, it is never used in this deck. The only role this card plays is to be a generic Light Fiend link monster.
2 Level 6 monsters / You can also Xyz Summon this card by sending 1 "Burning Abyss" monster from your hand to the Graveyard, then using 1 "Dante" monster you control as the Xyz Material. (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) If Summoned this way, the following effect cannot be activated this turn Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; send 1 card from your Deck to the Graveyard. If this card in your possession is destroyed by your opponent's card (by battle or card effect) and sent to your Graveyard: You can Special Summon 1 "Burning Abyss" monster from your Extra Deck, ignoring its Summoning conditions.
One of the two options for which R6 XYZ you will summon.
- Her (2) effect allows you to send any card from the deck to the GY as a quick effect. Due to the quick-effect this basically means you can foolish 2 cards until your opponent is allowed to play, as you will be using her both during your turn and during the opponent’s. There are many amazing targets to send for Labrynth, either in order to setup interactions or to extend combos, e.g.:
- Transaction Rollback
- The Black Goat Laughs
- Ishizu Shufflers (Mudora and Keldo)
- A target for Transaction Rollback
- Missing furnitures that you would like to get into rotation
2 Level 6 Fiend monsters
When a Spell/Trap Card, or monster effect, is activated that includes an effect that Special Summons a monster (Quick Effect): You can detach 1 material from this card; negate the activation, and if you do, destroy that card, then you can make 1 other "D/D" monster you control and this card gain 1800 ATK until the end of this turn. If this card is sent from the field to the GY: You can add 1 "Dark Contract" card from your Deck to your hand.
The other primary option for R6 plays. While Caesar does not give you any extension or follow-up, he is one of the strongest R6 in the game, as his double summon negate (for summons that start a chain) is brutal. He also makes Labrynth Nibiru safe, allowing you to play some of the more greedy lines that use the Unchained engine, which die to Nibiru normally.
Add 1 LIGHT Fiend monster from your Deck to your hand, then discard 1 card. You can banish this card from your GY; Fusion Summon 1 "Fiendsmith" Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck, using monsters from your hand or field. You can only use each effect of "Fiendsmith's Tract" once per turn.
The search spell of the engine, allthough it would be more accurate to call it an extender in combination with Fabled Lurrie.
- The (1) effect is the main one we are interested in, as it allows you to search a Light Fiend, and then discard a card. In most case this will be used to get Fabled Lurrie on board.
- The (2) effect is not relevant to Labrynth in most games, however it can come up.
Combos
This section will cover several combos. Fiendsmith Labrynth in particular is a lot less ambiguous with its game plan, with defined lines through a chunk of its early turn.
Fiendsmith Engraver
We will first examine Fiendsmith away from Labrynth to see what it can provide.
With only Fiendsmith Engraver in your hand you can produce the following 1 Card combo:
- Activate the Fiendsmith and search Tract
- Activate Tract, search Lurrie and discard this Lurrie
- Trigger the discard effect of Lurrie to special summon itself
- Link Lurrie into Fiendsmith’s Requiem
- Use Requiem to summon a copy of Fiendsmith Engraver from your deck
- Use the GY effect of Fiendsmith Engraver, shuffle back Lurrie to special summon Fiendsmith Engraver
Now you have 2 LV6 Light Fiends on board in 4 summons.
Where you continue from this stage is going to be hand and gamestate dependant. You could turn the bodies into a Rank 6 of choice such as Caesar to counter Nibiru, link them off into Sequence to attempt a Fiendsmith’s Lacrima play (explained below), or attempt another play on your 5th summon.
If you do decide to continue with the Sequence line:
- With your two Fiendsmith Engraver you go into Fiendsmith’s Sequence
- You use Sequence to fusion summon, by shuffling Fiendsmith Engraver and Fiendsmith Requiem back into the Deck to summon Fiendsmith Lacrimose
- Use the on-summon effect of Lacrimosa to target Fiendsmith Engraver in your GY, special summon it
You now have, once again, 2 LV6 Light Fiend on board, but also a Link-2. From here on you can still go into a Rank 6, while having the Link-2 as bonus body for e.g potential ED summons.
Be advised that this line plays into Nibiru, as Sequence is the 5th summon.
Both the basic and the Sequence line are the central combo line of this engine. Opening only Fabled Lurrie or Fiendsmith’s Tract will require an additional body for the Link-2, but you will still be able to reach a R6 (+ having a Link-2).
Alternatively, as we will examine in the next combo, any 3 bodies can potentially access the Fiendsmith engine.
The combos beyond this point feature a combination of using both Labrynth and the Fiendsmith engine.
Labrynth Cooclock + Labrynth Stovie Torbie
Let us assume you start with no Fiendsmith cards in hand, but the common clock combo. So long as you have Labrynth Cooclock, Labrynth Stovie Torbie, or a way to reach the missing furniture such as with Arianna the Labrynth Servant, you can commit to the Smith combo through Moon of the Closed Heaven.
- You do the usual Clock + Stovie combo
- If you started this combo without using Arianna as your Normal Summon to search one of the two furnitures you will now need to Normal Summon Cooclock, else you are one body short.
- Link Clock and Stovie into Closed Moon, who you then link into Requiem
- Tribute Requiem to summon the Fiendsmith from the Deck
From here you have a few options. You can link Lovely and Fiendsmith Engraver off into Sequence, or perform an Unchained line. Either way, you are already playing hard into Nibiru, so might as well commit fully at this point.
Note: The embedded replay ends here (for now), for the full replay please check out this Duelingbook replay.
The board that this combo builds is incredible resilient and designed to not insta lose to any given board breaker. Overall the Labrynth Cooclock combo is by far the most vulnerable in terms of being interrupted. Next we shall examine a much more durable pair.
Arianna the Labrynth Servant + Fiendsmith Engraver
…or any way to reach both.
Note: there currently is no embedded replay for this, please check back in the future for that and make due with a Duelingbook replay for now.
These two are much more insulated than the Labrynth Cooclock combo, as will be shown below. First there is the line:
- Use Fiendsmith Engraver to search Fiendsmith’s Tract.
- Use Fiendsmith’s Tract to search Fabled Lurrie and discard it, resulting in Fabled Lurrie special summoning itself.
- Link Fabled Lurrie off into Fiendsmith’s Requiem, who you then tribute to summon another copy of Fiendsmith Engraver.
- If you are going 2nd, this is the point at which you can use Fiendsmith Engraver to send an opponents card, if you equip Fiendsmith’s Requiem.
- Normal summon Arianna the Labrynth Servant, search Labrynth Stovie Torbie
- Stovie will be used to discard a card for Big Welcome to provide additional insulation, or to continue with combo extension. Arianna the Labrynth Servants search is of course hand dependent.
- Link Arianna the Labrynth Servant and Fiendsmith Engraver into Unchained Soul Lord of Yama, search Unchained Soul of Sharvara
- Special Summon Fiendsmith Engraver from the GY with its effect, link it and Unchained Soul Lord of Yama into Fiendsmith’s Sequence.
- Fusion Summon Fiendsmith’s Lacrima with Fiendsmith’s Sequences effect by shuffling back Fabled Lurrie and Fiendsmith’s Requiem. Use the on-summon effect to revive Fiendsmith Engraver once again.
- Overlay both LV6 into Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal and use her effect, detaching Fiendsmith Engraver, to foolish Transaction Rollback. Now use Unchained Soul of Sharvara to pop the Big Welcome Labrynth you have set earlier with Labrynth Stovie Torbie.
- Use Unchained Soul of Sharvara and Fiendsmith’s Sequence to link into Unchained Soul of Rage, set Escape of the Unchained with the effect of Unchained Soul of Sharvara.
We have reached the standard endboard. Though if we had been interrupted, we do have means of insulation. Duelingbook Replays with explanations versus each handtrap can be found here:
Of course playing through multiple handtraps is more difficult and more hand dependent. This is why it is recommended to start with the Fiendsmith cards first, to give your Labrynth cards insulation. Fiendsmith Engraver engine eating an Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring means Big Welcome Labrynth will not this turn.
Sample Cores and Decklists
Here are some decklists crafted by the Discord. Note that due to the ambiguous format that the Fiendsmiths are due to release in, these lists may not be optimal, and it is heavily encouraged to test and modify lists to suit your needs, as Labrynth has done since release.
Note: Please be aware that the prices shown for these decklists are inaccurate as the Fiendsmith cards have not been released yet
